Patricia, congratulations on getting some of your seedlings up in all that cold, wet weather. I just wish we could even things up a bit. Arizona would like to trade some warm sun for some rain. We have had only one tenth of an inch since the first of last December. In the past three days the temperature has come down from the high 90s to the low 80s. I have been frantically pollen daubing in this brief window of cool, trying to get some pods of pink irises for next year. All I have done so far has come to zero.
Last year I got 30 pods. I only planted 26 of them and got an average of 50% germination. That still makes over 400 little seedlings I've been transplanting. Oh, my achin' back! If I had gotten better germination, I don't know what I would have done with them. My husband would not be happy to hear that I want him to plow up and prepare still more land for irises.

Lorraine,
I bet I gotcha beat on cooool weather. All last week, the temps
didn't get out of the 40s! And we're still waiting for mid-60s, let
alone 80s. No wonder my new baby seeds haven't shown their heads.
Until today. I do see tips of those beloved sharp little leaves on
one cross -- and all together, whether I planted them in pots or into
the seedbed. Encouraging, for sure.
