Re: CULT: Squirrels.

My husband told me about your grey squirrels. They sound huge. It would make sense that a larger animal would be more distructive. They probably make a better meal fo the "oh darns" too. VBG We are still having nice cool weather after our storm, and possibilities of more rain. The last storm we had not only turned over a filing station but tore part of the roof off of Walmart and tore up parking lots for Walmart, K-Mart, and everything in the surrounding weather. There was damage all over Manhattan and Topeka. Both cities hit with Tornado speed winds. Still they are not admitting that there were tornadoes in the area.` Typical Kansas. No residences were severly damaged and no one died so it couldn't have been a tornado. What was really interesting that night was they canceled the tornado watch before the storm got here.

Things look pretty good right now but the water table is still down. The creek isn't up and all this moisture has only brought the river up to normal level. If it gets dry again, we won't really be much better off than we were last year when the creeks and ponds dried up. But if we keep getting rain this month and next maybe we will see an end to this drought. I hope so. I hate watering in the winter here. At least with these slow soakers there is a better chance for crops to do well. For the first year in three years everything is sprouting like it needs to to provide crops. There has been an incredible number of small farms going to the auction block this spring due to foreclosures. One good crop will at least slow some of that down.

  Wendy,
Around here, there are the very common gray squirrels, and the rare fox
squirrels. The gray ones are the vandals. I lost a couple plants due to
their digging. Thinking of this, I got #11 this evening...
