HYB: Louisa's Song

That lovely Blyth creation opened for me; not much "inspiring" to cross with
it. The first two flowers received pollen from Cloud Ballet and Larry
Gaulter. Lots of bloom in my new beds coming this week, something should
open up that would make an even more interesting cross. Another brand new
Blyth, Painted From Memory, will probably open two flowers on a great stalk
today. Best available mix for it: Double Dribble; although Blyth says PFM
is a "difficult" parent, I'll find out.

I don't often get excited about medians, so it's frustrating to see a lot of
Filibuster x Rock Star seedlings coming up as very short BB's. All those
luminata and plicata seedlings with horns and flounces; the only TB in the
bunch is the least ruffled of the lot. A different Rock Star cross had a
distinctively pretty BB with a wide red-brown rim, a yellow band of similar
width, a large white spot under the beard, nice horns, ..... and hideous
wide-open standards. Rock Star throws a lot of interesting seedlings, but
it sure is hard to breed the short out of them. Suddenly I'm tempted to try
it on PFM, but I just know I'll be disappointed 2-3 years later.
