Hi Christy - last year and the year before, I packed all the pots of storeboughts close together and covered them with Reemay type plant bed covers, left it on all winter.

Because it didn't really get particularly cold this winter and there were no warm spells to trigger new growth, I figured they didn't need it this winter. It never got into the single digits, not cold enough to kill back the figs. And they certainly had plenty of time between planting and the first freeze to get comfy.

rats.

<There's an old trick I've used with great success when irises (or any plants)
need to be transplanted too late in the season to avoid freeze damage and
gives me up to an extra month of warmer conditions for transplanting...>
