In fact, some botanists have moved the bulb irises out of the genus Iris.
It's the old debate between "lumpers" and "splitters". FWIW, the reason
they are usually grouped together is because of flower structure. All
irises share a certain set of flower characteristics: inferior ovary,
divided perianth, etc.
