Clarence:
I appreciate your interest in I. hexagona. All my Florida references as well
as the Society for Louisiana Iris references say I. hexagona. All other
concepts are synonyms of I. hexagona.
I live along the Caloosa Hatchie (hatchie means river) or River of the
Caloosa. I do not live far from where Dr. Small walk and visited the iris
fields along the river and north to Arcadia. The vast fields do not exit in
that virgin state due to drainage and cattle raising, however large areas can
still be found and scatterings along the highways and ditches. I have seen
three white selections all collected. LaBelle is 30 miles east of Ft. Myers,
south of the river and Arcadia is about 40 miles north of Ft. Myers. This
area is the habitat inwhich Dr. Small listed his concept I. savannarum.
