Janet: Is this an official, judged show? Are you participating? How do
you prepare LI for show? Let me know how many bloomstalks. Who won? What
kind of crowd did you have? Does the public go wild about this kind of
show? There seem to be so many on this LIST who grow LI, I'll be it will
have a wonderful response. Then, do you have specific awards for winners?
We present awards at our annual banquet, do you? In Delaware a couple of
years ago, I judged a Regional show that was in a Mall -- it was TB's and
Beardless -- that was HUGE!! I mean, table after table after table. No
LI or species, however. They had a (very large) award table and each section
winner was displayed magnificantly. There was such a crowd of spectators that
the area had to be roped off. Each section winner received an iris-related
gift along with the ribbon -- a vase, a dish -- it must have taken a year
for the sponsoring group to find an collect just those award gifts.
VERY EXCITING!!
Our local show is in our local Botanical Gardens which seems to attract only
interested folks. In a mall, just everybody stops to look. I learned about
iris (after having grown them for half a lifetime -- didn't know a borer
from a board)at a show in a Mall. We're specialists, now!!
Who else on this LIST is planning or anticipating their show?
Clarence, What are shows like where you are?
Western New York has official shows as well as exhibits. We hope you will all
come, too.
Chris H in CANADA-- you are officially invited!!! Have you had a show?
Need any judges? Keep in mind there are several in Western NY and most of us
drive, hint hint.
