Well, other than the reticulatas, which bloomed what seems
like a century ago, before record freezes, heat waves, and
more drought...
I believe it is the TB "Secret Melody" which has bloomed.
Described as a plicata with apricot "top" (standards)?
and a primarily white "bottom" plicata'd with burgundy,
to me the apricot seems to be a bit chartreuse and the
burgundy less purple/red than brown, but I believe it's
the same one. Regardless, it is MUCH fancier than most
TB's seen in these parts (Austin, TX, zone 8b).
Out of approximately 60 TBs newly planted, I have perhaps
six that have obvious buds. Would the others have buds
if they were going to bloom this year?
Our weather has been so terrible that they are either
delayed or are going to skip this year and (hopefully)
concentrate on their root systems.
