Re: impatience re JI

I know what you mean about not being able to get out of this box... I can't
get out today. All I can do is push return....Keep trying Ginny, I'm over
here....
Did you kind of nick the seeds to cut thru that tough shell? did you soak them
overnight? Go away on vacation... Is 75 too high a temp??
My instructions come via John Coble at Ensata Gardens. They do not
mention a week of warmth. It starts by tieing the seeds in bundles,
2. place in large bowl with water and kept in cool palce (next to sink?)
change the water every day for 15 days.
3. drain the bundles and put them in a plastic bag, tied closed in the
beggie bin of the refrig for 10 weeks.
4. at the end of 10 weeks, take the bundles from the frig, put them in a bowl
with plastic wrap over the top to keep them moist (Tupperware bowl, closed) and place them inside the house at normal living temp.
5. Check every few days for germination. as they germinate plant in separate LARGE pots in a mixture of good potting soil, top soil and peatmoss.
6. Place under "grow lights" or a shop light with one cool and one warm flo.
light -- 16 hrs/day and covered with clear plastic until the first leaves
show.
7 continue to grow until they can be moved outside.
plant in the ground when (IF THIS YEAR) the soil is warmed up.
The instructions suggest collecting ripe seed and storing until early winter
(November/December and then start the bundles in bowls -- that would be
your Xmas activity... I got some germinated about Feb. 2 in '94.
Gosh, what typos. Tried to hurry sorry, Ginny.
Hope this helps. I have the paper next to me if you need a correction.
