Hi Ginny (is that ca = Canada??) Here, judges become Master Judges after
they've been accredited for (a long time) and have judged, and grown, and
conducted judges training and all that etc. So, I understand that a master
gardenre is ALWAYS in training. ((That note was for the non-judges here on
this LIST)
I don't know if there is a club which has clinics in nurseries. It sounds
like a really good idea. Western New York Iris Society (the WEENIES) has
several Exhibits each year where we display iris. The Median is in May,
over Mem. Day weekend (actually only about 4 hours long), we have the
Official Show in June -- we exhibit mostly TB's here, some of whatever is
in bloom-- and we have a Siberian/Japanese in early July. The first and
the last are at nurseries. We display at both. We answer questions, etc.
In the past, we have spent time at nurseries to answer questions when they
do some sort of promotion and invite all sorts of garden clubs, but we
have found that "walk ins" aren't very interested and so we do specialty
exhibits and advertise that way.
We also have at our local Botanical Gardens a "Garden Information Day" at
which all the garden clubs have a table to distribute information. We get
extremely interested gardeners at this event. In nearby Rochester, NY
was a garden show which was an opportunity to give information.
That's what we do in WNY. Can't say what the rest of the USA does... It's
a VERY independant nation(((GRIN!!)))) Let's hear what the rest of the country
does!!
