A real good starting point. Dishwashing soap is better than hand soap. Hand soap tends to have too
many additives. What you need is something that has a surface surfactant in it. Most any of the
popular dishwashing detergent brands will do. If you want to get a little more specific, Safers
Insectidal Soap is a brand name of a soap specifically formulated for plants. Garden store should
carry it.

I certainly understand that problem, I used to live outside of Rochester.

With as much control by the government on pesticides (some of it justified) I haven't kept up on
whats new. Malathion is/was a good general, Dursban, Diazinon, Orthene are others. Any of them
should cover the spectrum of what is causing your problem.

Best to check with your local garden shop. If New York has state certified master gardners, ask to
speak to one a the store, they should be up to speed on the newest. If you are going to go to a
garden store anyway, take a sample of thy problem along. Get an experts first hand opinion.
