:Can you explain further in regard to why rebloomers need to be protected and
:and planted where things grow well compared to that of non-rebloomers?
Protection is important because rebloomers are in a race against the calendar,
so to speak: they need to produce new growth and bloom before freezing weather
comes in the fall. So a location that keeps them sheltered from frost for an
extra week or two can do wonders for the quantity and quality of fall bloom.
The growing conditions should be the best you can achieve in your garden,
because the rebloomers must be able to get twice as much growth into a
single year as once-bloomers. Once-bloomers can tolerate periods of reduced
growth from time to time during the year and still perform well the next
spring. With rebloomers, the fall bloom is greatly improved if they can
grow as much and as well as they possibly can throughout the growing season.
Happy irising, Tom.
