through Winter and Spring with the bulbs and flowering trees, then into
the roses, then cannas and dahlias and then a solid mass of
chrysanthemums. then we start to get back to the bulbs again. Thats
just mentioning the "majority" plants.... there's always heaps of other
bits and pieces putting their heads up here and there.
Sounds lovely! I think it comes down to depth of soil. Even with mulch
things wilt badly between watering here. Underneath the 6-8" of topsoil
is porous subsoil, like a sieve. My previous garden is only a few Km
from here but is in 2' of heavy topsoil over clay subsoil. It always
looked great and needen little watering, but I spent many hours breaking
my back, weeding. Summer flowering perrenials do well, and I tried
daylilies this year and am very impressed with their long flowering, but
even with their shorter bloom period, I prefer irises. (Guess that's why
I'm here!)
