When the numerical ratio of off topic posts to on topic posts gets skewed, the
surest way for true iris fanatics to right the balance is to post more on
topic posts.
People join the list and leave the list all the time, for all sorts of
reasons. Of those true iris fanatics who have left who have privately shared
their reasons with me, none have mentioned OT posts. Two have, however, cited
people's crankiness as a cause.
