"I was very interested in Jeff's reference to the World Conservation Union
announcement that 32% (almost 1 in 3) of all naturally occurring species of
Iridaceae (iris and irids) are under threat of extinction."
I too am interested in these findings. If anyone could refer me to the
author of the study to find a listing of the species shown to be in
jeopardy, I'd appreciate this. I am an off/on patron of The Nature
Conservancy and want to know if they are reporting any North American
species in danger.
To me, an appropriate remedy to this is the protection of habitat which will
require a major collective action, perhaps involving the AIS.
I have been to the World Conservation Union's (IUCN) "homepage," but I can't
find the text of this announcement.
