Hello L-ers,
Regarding Mike Sutton's half/half iris, there is a similar iris that I grow
that shows a similar pattern though not quite the same. Corsage (E. Watkins
'55) was introduced by Tell Muhlestein and it sometimes displays the half/half
pattern. This iris is white and yellow and each flower and each petal will
show different degrees of variegation (color breaking?). Some petals will be
streaked and splashed, sometimes petals will be half yellow and half white,
sometimes petals will be all yellow or all white, sometimes half yellow (or
white) and half splashed. A few times it has shown a bi-lateral division of
color. Does anyone know any history of this iris? Has anyone tried to
hybridize with it? Should I?
