I concur with Arnold that Spuria would be a better choice for you.
I imagine that our climate in the Okanagan valley in BC is fairly
similar to yours. (Zone 5 winters and bone dry, hot summers).
At one time I had about 80 LAs here and so far as I can recall, none
were killed by winter cold. The trick was in getting them to bloom. Only
about one third of them ever did show a flower including Black Gamecock.
They sure are beautiful and it would be nice to have them but I just
decided that this environment is too alien for them and I am not
interested in doing major alterations to an environment which works so
well for far more plants than I could ever grow.
