Once more into the fray.....Rusty, I don't know what was posted to you
privately but I didn't get the sense that you were being reprimanded on
list. at least, I hope that's not the case. I know you are tender
hearted about Monty even as I am and most of his other fans. I've never
felt his genius would be recognized but it has and I rejoice! The iris
world lost much at his untimely demise.
One thing about this list that I really like is that there are others on
it that love SAs....I found out that about you the first week I was on it.
Another thing I have learned is that we are in the minority and we must
have a thicker skin. I think a lot of the detractors just aren't SA fans
and that's their perogative. One thing we know, SAs are here to stay.
Thank you for defending Monty. I think in time more and more people will
come to appreciate his efforts. Last year one man was accompanying
his wife through our garden, obviously not really thrilled about it. He
halted at our large clump of THORNBIRD and said, "Now, THIS flips my
switch! What is it?" Of course he wasn't a judge, didn't even know what
a good iris is supposed to look like. Oh, incidentally, here in S. IL ours
has never produced other than thorns and
it has been there since 1990. Heard any complaints about MESMERIZER? Maybe
it'll be the next one of Monty's to make it big. (what was the last white
iris to win the Dykes?) Or maybe it might be one of Mike Sutton's. Well,
hang in there, little buddy. Are you cheered up yet? Ann & Ernie
Henson Maybe this THORNBIRD controversy can die a
peaceful death very soon.
