CULT: would a label truly tell me organic vs. synthetic?

I am proud that I have never added anything to my lawn other than
water, and have a sign that proudly displays, "Safe for children and
other living organisms".

I am considering, however, adding something to the beds I just
lifted clumps of iris from--they were VERY crowded, and I'm afraid
maybe depleted of whatever iris like best.

For new plantings, I always just folded in compost from my back yard
pile. But there ARE some things I could add (other than manure?)
that can help encourage iris bloom?

household/natural vs. $$ products or synthetic/non-organic
