Dunno. But I have thought about this more than anyone
should for someone who doesn't have iris borers. :-)
I think it is the freezing Oct. that kills the
moths..we have hard freezes in Sept. usually and
always in Oct. and it rarely warms up. I have no idea
about about moths and the habitat. We do have moths
but not the brown moth (is it brown?) that is the
borer moth.
I am out of my league on this for sure. Just guessing
like almost everyone else on borers...how to kill, how
to prevent, how to clean up, how to 'understand' the
life cycle. I seriously doubt it is because of the
altitude but there may be some bug that get them. We
are inundated with stinging black flies from May until
August, as an example. It may be nature not the
weather. I know that we had a little bloom before you
but I think (?) that the really cold weather comes
more violently and earlier here in the mountains and
never leaves.
I just know I don't have them and no one else around
here has them. You just watch - next year, I will lose
most of my iris because of the iris borer.
I will not go down without a fight... ;-)
