Re: CULT: Borer, Merit, & Mach 2

Among other things, the mentioned website with the info about Merit and
Mach2 says

<Mach2® is a recently developed molt accelerating compound that mimics
the action of the insect molting hormone, ecdysone.>

My brother-in-law was involved with some of the ecdysone research years
ago. He says he has never heard anything about a molt-accelerating
effect of fluvalinate, but is going to check around. Where is the line
between 'hype' & fabrication?

As long as the stuff stays put and/or is broken down & isn't flushed
into waterways with sediment or in solution, aquatic toxicity may not
matter much. I wouldn't use it in coarse textured (sandy) soils.

Thanks Al.

<Mach2 is fluvalinate (synthetic pyethrin(?sp). .....As with many
things, the fanfare is greater than the results. .....Seems somewhere I
read that it has an impact on aquatic life. ... "what doesn't". >
