Re: CULT: ?Louisa's Song, Easy Living & soil

That sounds wonderful Neil.

This gravelly mess I call garden soil is highly productive if it gets
enough water, but without supplemental water, only those cultivars able
to produce deep roots thrive.

I have also been using sand a lot for 'intensive care' and for holding
plants till I get around to planting, taking to sale, etc. I put
several inches of fresh horse droppings (no bedding) in the bottom of
pots to keep the sand from running out, then a layer of coarse creek
sand, then plant rhizomes on top of that in coarse creek sand. Dust the
surface with crushed dolomitic limestone and feed with water soluble
plant food containing trace nutrients.

EASY LIVING (LOUISA'S SONG's child, sibling to DECADENCE), is looking
quite remarkable here with no special care. Very healthy, clean foliage
that I keep thinking is one of my super tough seedlings! It's new here
(arrived from Tempo Two this spring) so hasn't been through one of our
freeze/thaw winter/springs, but sailed thru the post bloom season summer
crud with gorgeous foliage.
