Jennifer, I have only included selected parts of your message rather than
the entire note because I'm sure folks closer to you can address some
other aspects better. I would suggest that if you have low lying areas
that get and stay soggy in the spring you might consider using raised
beds in that area. You could then plant the rhizomes deeper but still
maintain good drainage. In my garden it seems to be the aeration and soil
health that is the most important rather than the planting depth.
