That sounds like fun!
I was thinking that the AIS membership (not the trained judges, just the
dirty handed gardeners who don't personally know the hybridizers and might be
less concerned about hurting their feelings) might run a 'veto' vote for
Dykes medal contenders based exclusively on garden performance. Send out a
check list like for the symposium, but only for Dykes contenders, with a
column for 'have you grown it in your garden for more than one year' (if not,
you can't veto), 'how do you rank it's reliability and growth in your garden
- 1 = dead or rots, 2= average, 3 = better than average'. Any contender that
shows a consistent pattern of '1's outside its region of origin gets vetoed.
Poor ol' IMMORTALITY - out there with half the clump just rottin' away with
two nice bloomstalks just finishing on the other half. This iris certainly
deserves some kind of award for determination.
