We use fish emulsion and seaweed very often in our alkaline soil.
I'm not aware of any effect seaweed has on soil pH. It's
considered an "ash" that contributes "potash," that much we
knew, and potassium is one of the harder elements to obtain
organically (green sand is another good source). However,
I looked in the Encyclopedia Britannica, and the only
reference to anything regarding pH was that if allowed to
ferment kelp would produce acetic acid.
Of course, JIs are much more sensitive to needing acidic conditions
than the bearded iris.
