Barb,

First, my thanks to you and the other folks in the Santa Fe Iris
Society for a terrific sale and auction last weekend. You folks did a
wonderful job! The rest of you should have seen the shark feeding frenzy
at the tables!
Regarding your question, unlike Iris, Glads have one basic place of
origin (South Africa), and grow under pretty much the same conditions.
There are very few subspecies of glads and I am not familiar with the
one you mention. It is probably either a crocosmia or a montbretia - but
that's just a guess. I made a quick pass through some reference material
and did not find that name. Maybe someone on the list knows.
In zone 5 where you live the corms will be marginally winter hardy.
Unpot them when the plants fade, store the corms in a cool airy location
until spring and then replant outdoors. I keep a section of my vege
garden for little fellows like that. They'll need good sun and more
moisture than you give your iris. You should get flowers in two years,
maybe next year if you're lucky. Then we can figure out exactly what
they are.
Incidentally, I am trying your technique for labelling my iris and it
works very well, indeed! Thanks for sharing it.

Ross
