I don't grow MULBERRY PUNCH, but there is tremendous variability in how
different cv's respond to drought.  The ones that seem to handle it best
are those that don't mind going completely dormant and lose all their
foliage (example CHURCHILL DOWNS or maybe it's KENTUCKY DERBY - get the
names mixed).  Some will even lose their roots (example BOOGIE WOOGIE). 
While planting some new arrivals the other day, I accidentally dug up a
perfectly healthy looking 2 yr rhizome of something that had died back
to nothing visible, fooling me into thinking I had a 'vacancy'.  No
careful data collection (I'll take some notes this year), but they seem
to bloom fine the following spring.  Some on the list have said that
lack of adequate moisture in the summer will affect bloom the following
spring - for sure, that will happen if they are newly planted, but I
suspect many cvs are unaffected.
