Re: Garden Markers

Garden Markers & Lead:

Old blinds and old painted plastic may leach lead because the paints
used twenty or more years ago contained lead drying agents. Lead hasn't
been used in interior paints for years and is allowed in exterior paints
only for special purposes and on the condition that the labels clearly
state that lead is present. Remove the paint and you remove the lead.

Garden Markers and ASTM D-4236
Arts & Crafts Materials Institute Certification

This certification is designed to protect children from the hazards
assoicated with certain arts & crafts maerials. It means that the
product is not hazardous to people or is labeling in such a way as to
make the hazard clearly known to the user.

It is NOT, repeat NOT, safe to assume that a D-4236 compliant product is
not toxic to your plants.

If anyone has other questions of this nature, please be free to contact
me off-list. We can post questions and answers to the list if we agree
that they are of list member interest.
