headers?

 Sorry to be so ignorant, but what ARE headers and what use are they?  Is it
supposed to be flattering to receive one?  Maybe I missed the point. Have had
2 sent to me  this week so far and they don't make sense to me, therfore I
just eliminated them after one perusal--'nuff said = Rosalie, who evidently
doesn't have the proper sense of humor!
