Lane--its just a stupid mistake. By Spanish Iris they mean the same thing
that everyone means by Spanish Iris--namely the bulbous irises a little
closer to the species (filifolia and tingitana) than the Dutch hybrids.
But somewhere along the line someone supplied a picture of an RC and called
it "Spanish Iris" so now everyone is using the same wrong picture! The
catalog pictures are supplied by the Dutch wholesalers and growers. Most
of these outfits do none of their own growing and probably have never seen
the plants they sell in anything but bulb form. I wonder how many people
were disappointed when their irises looked nothing like the picture!
