And another possibility, Mark and Marte, is that it may have been a
grave site. I have found irises on graves in Kentucky, Mark, where only
a few gravestones from the mid-to-late-1800's were left. As I posted
many months ago, this was a Turkish custom that was brought into Europe
and may have transferred thence to America.
