Elizabeth,
If you put a ring of diatomaceous earth (crushed diatom-shells-available
at pet stores for use in power filters) around your peppers (or any
plant
for that matter) it kills the slugs before they can get to your plant.
Very effective. I too have slug problems with hostas, glads and some
times my sedum, but never my irises either.
