Hello Pat;
I think you recognized the quilty culprit when you mentioned the ground
squirrel. In 1996 when Sacramento, California was getting ready for the Iris
Convention they planted a plot of irises in the Capital Park, which has an
abundance
of mooching ground squirrels. Within the week they were calling for volunteers
to go
replant the removed Rhz. The ground squirrel got the blame as some Rz were eaten
but
many were pulled out and dropped. After a replant, with the moocher patiently
waiting, some chicken wire cover was added until convention.
