I have seen the yellow-flowered Tithonias and hope to grow them next year.
Meanwhile, one of many Tithonia seedlings in my patch came up with foliage
attractively variegated in yellow. The new leaf growth is bright yellow
and yellow patches persist on the older leaves. The flowers are the
typical orange. I'm going to save seed and try to select for a more
vigorous plant habit with better variegation. While the nonvariegated
plants are 5-6' tall, the variegated one is just a little more than a foot
high, though it is flowering.
Looks like central Virginia will not get much from the hurricane. TV
weatherman last night said we'd be lucky to get a drop of rain. Too bad,
we need rain.
But storm warnings are up along the coast for later today--Bonnie is now
pounding the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
