This is definitely not OT! I'm betting that the leaf spotting is not due
to weeds competing for nutrients, but to the lack of air circulation and
consequent higher humidity where the irises are crowded by weeds. These
conditions invariably lead to fungal leaf spot. Keep those weeds out,
don't plant your irises too close together, and the problem should
disappear.
Be sure you do a thorough clean-up this fall and burn all old iris foliage.
Repeat the procedure in the spring.
