I have a question for Neil and anyone else who is knowledgeable about
genetics. I'm sure not. Three years ago I crossed Pond Lily with
Celebration Song. At the time I didn't realize that they were related,
both sharing the pod parent, Lullaby of Spring. I just knew that they
were beautiful irises that produce vigorous seedlings. Eighteen
seedlings Pond Lily X Celebration Song germinated. Everyone was
deformed and soon died. Can anyone suggest what is wrong with that
cross that caused it to do that?
I've hear enough about crossing siblings and half siblings to believe
that inbreeding is not usually a problem in irises, but that is a cross
I won't try again.
