Re: Colchicination


Colchicine is used to induce doubling  the chromosomes. I believe there is
an article somewhere in the archives regarding how-to. However, I am not
sure there would be much benefit in octoploid bearded irises. Also, the
bearded irises that are diploid would more than likely have problems staying
in-class (think MTB or IB) since doubling chromosomes often results in
enlargement of plant size, like in the Siberian irises. At any rate,
colchicine
can be a really nasty toy to play with, so be careful.
