I bought one 3 months ago for $19.95 after rebates. At OfficeMax. They have
one on sale now like mine for $39.95 after rebates. That is for a internal CD
writers. Cd's are real cheap on sale. Sometimes for free after rebates. They
have external for $99.00 all the time. Sometimes less on sale. They hold 650
mb to 800 mb each CD.

I also make backups of my software. A small scratch on a disk can make it
unusable. I also back up my database for iris and other things. I jut upgraded
to XP. I don't know what I would have done with out the CD writer to backup
every thing before. Not that hard to use either.
For computer challenged people someone can show you how to do in in 15 min.
Most writers come with a program. Watching it being done is so much easier.
Writen instructions sometimes baffle me

This would work but for $19.95 a card reader would be better. The computer
sees it as another drive. and needs no batteries. I saw a floppy drive with a
card reader also. I would read any cards out now.

I would have to have three jump drives to back up my pictures. That's $240.
Jump drives are great for moving files from one computer to another and are
easy to carry with you. Some card readers are no much bigger and easy to take
with you. With older versions of operating software you would need drivers.
With a CD no drivers are needed for jepgs.
