RE: zonal plicatas

Thanks Fred for your input here. I mentioned this earlier and gave the example of "Sarah Lauren" which is a nice zonal ( Victoria Fall X Titan's Glory) and in test crosses to plicata shows that it probably only has two plicata genes. Interestingly enough it has two plicata genes. Do you have some examples that you think have no plicata genes? The plicata genes (all three active known alleles) show up in all sorts of random places and only test crosses can really give us the definative information. If you have some good information from crosses with these non-plicata zonals X plicatas it would be most welcome. Also welcome would any iinformation on plants tht you have identified as plicata-zonals.

Thanks

"I don't think all zonals are plicatas. Some zonals are plicatas, but not
all. Some zonals from Schreiner's and Ghio show no plicata in their background.
There seems to be a real tendency to attribute all anthocyanine patterns to
plicata alleles. This is not justified by evidence. I would also disagree with
the contention that broken color has any necessary relationship to the
plicata series.
