Linda, Rosalie and others,
I have absolutely nothing against tailored irises or anyone that prefers
this type!!! In 2004 alone, there were 583 new tall bearded irises introduced.
Surely, there are enough irises available that everyone can find something
that appeals to their specific iris pallet.
Twenty years ago, an iris friend challenged me to breed irises. But I
resisted! Why should I make crosses? After all, regular irises were so beautiful
that there was nothing left to improve! (no one has to convince me)
Like others, I thought it was a lot of work for just 3 weeks or so of bloom
per year. I'm basically a TB lover!
When I started breeding rebloomers some 20 years ago it was not an accident.
It was a deliberate choice.
As a direct result of that choice, one of my main goals (20 years) has been
to introduce ruffles (and lace where and if possible) into the rebloom branch
of the TB class. Do I personally have a problem with tailored irises? No!
I like what I like, no excuses.
Have any of my introductions been tailored? Yes. When they have other
qualities I find worthwhile. Will I introduce more that are tailored? Maybe . .
. you see there's this red thing that grows like a weed and is a terrific
parent . . . maybe, maybe not. Actually there are several red ones that
rebloom and are tailored. <vbg> Can't wait to see what MASTERY has added to THIS
line!!
Mainly? I have fun.
