Re: HYB: Research: Building a better rebloomer

well, even if my aim is to help improve the world of REB irises quantity AND quality wise, and no one can doubt my dedication to this project,
i can understand the frustrations of the non believers!

The rebloom doesn't (YET) match the spring bloom festival for the good reason that the plant itself doen't look that fresh any more. If summer was dry and hot, the scortched plants are the ghost refection of what they were in May, if summer's been wet, Leaf spot has had time to ruin the landcape.
And if the frost hits early, hearbreaking aborted buds just top it all!
Not to mentionl the competition with the fiery dahlias and the bright warm rudbeckias that is so unfair, rebloomers playing in another range of subtility!

So, it's true, the challenge is not a small one, there's still a lot of work to do. But you should have seen my garden this autumn, with a third of the 1200 irises being rebloomers, it was starting to give me hope on what was possible to achieve.
It IS possible to match the spring festival of colours.
How?
By planting more and more rebloomers, (not just 5%, which is the proportion of rebloomers registered every year, i've been through the5 last years, it's a constant figure!)and to make people want them, they must be as beautiful as the spring ones! And when you look at Mike's new red black (twice told x snow melt X rom ev x double agent ) colour wise, there is hope! We also must improve the rot problem! if you put fragile irises into mixed borders, the rhyzomes being always in the shade of other plants, well, goodbye!

Yes, Sisyphus was condamned to push his rock up the mountain and watch it roll back down, then push it up again, let it roll back etc,etc... but what Albet Camus told us , (and that is the antidote to the absurdity of life and it is proper to being a human being) is the fact that Sisyphus is HAPPY!

Just like us, our knees in the mud and our heads full of dreams!

Anner, it wasn't intended as a trick question, but as a reminder! Tastes
vary! It's something to be remembered by those breeding rebloomers. And yes,
I've ask the question before in other forms. Some things bear repeating.

Rebloomers are still relatively unknown in the general gardening public.
Hearing this still surprises me, although I should be used to the idea by now. Many of these people, upon learning of rebloomers, ask why people would not want a garden full of rebloomers! I suspect these are iris lovers, rather than general gardeners. I was just passing the question along! By this time, they often know I breed rebloomers so the remark must be viewed as biased.

As for my line of interest? I'm quite obsessed! This list is a research
source for me. I'm sure there are people that are sick of hearing/reading my talk about rebloomers! As I'm bored with other topics. However, I'm known
for my passion and make no pretense otherwise. I do not apologize!

Surely, people learned to delete my posts years ago? <vbg>

I think we all had great respect for Ms. Figge's thoughts and feelings!
This was heartwarming and so good to see! So rare these days!

Thanks for presenting the non-rebloom view.
