Just finished planting seeds today -- 2 months later than usual. Imagine my surprise when, opening the winter frame (a mesh-topped enclosure open to the weather), I found two sprouts in a pot left over from a previous year. One has three leaves, the other two, and both are less than 3 inches tall, so I must conclude that they have sprouted during the last couple of weeks. Never had fall sprouts before. The pot was completely shaded, so I moved it to the opposite wall of the enclosure, where it will get winter sun and warmth reflected off the wooden wall, and gave it a light covering of pine straw. The low was 22 last night. It warmed up to 39 today.
