Probably for the same reason detergents are verboten for cleaning
collectible coins - they can be too %^$$^ harsh. I tried it some 20 years
ago with some common cupro-nickel "silver" dollars - just apply a squirt
of Ivory(tm) detergent & let it stand a while before rinsing and shiny
*new* coins take on a *permanent* grayish stain. IMHO if it can tarnish
nickel it can damage tender plants.
