HYB: aphylla ancestry

From: Mike Lowe <mlowe@worldiris.com>

I need to query the hybridizers on the list: please mention some TBs
that have aphylla in their background.

I don't want to mouse trap anyone -- I think that those who have
browsed the HIPS website know that I run a tree database and that it
is fairly extensive. Also, to cover those cultivars that have far
less than 1 percent aphylla background, lets stipulate that Blue Boy
(Michael Foster 1913) has come forward through Narain (Shuber 1936)
and Paul Cook BB124. Keep in mind that 2 to the 18th power is over a
quarter of a million. Certainly TBs with nearly twenty generations in
their background don't have every branch going back that far, also as
we go back commonality increases.

With those givens, I have often been guilty of looking at an iris and
remarking: "Wow, that really has aphylla branching!" I also have very
strong but unprovable speculations concerning some 'way back'
ancestors that do not have documented pedigrees.

Still and all, I would love to know the TBs with strong aphylla
ancestry. (exclude MTBs and SPEC-X crosses)

Cheers,
