Re: AIS:Bee Warburton Medal

From: GWhite & LRader <bentfork@alltel.net>

Greetings,
I have apparently missed reading the initial conversation in the AIS
Bulletin about the Bee Warburton Medal. I have noticed references to it in a
few back issues, then in this new issue the photo of the medal appeared. My
question is - What is the Bee Warburton Medal for? I know that she worked
extensively with siberians, SDBs, and species, and probably with most types of
irises during her life. Is the medal for work in one of these groups or is it
an award for service to AIS or??? I thought that there would be an
accompanying article with the photos, but nary a word could be found to describe
the purpose for the award.
I certainly wish that I had known her. Judging from her activities in AIS
as well as her hybridizing efforts and the comments/stories, etc I have read,
her knowledge of irises must have been encyclopedic.
I have a number of siberians and versicolors that she hybridized. MAD
MAGENTA, for example, is one of my favorites. It never fails to perform
exceedingly well.
Anyway, I (and perhaps others) would be grateful if someone could fill me in
on the purpose of this beautiful medal commemorating such a remarkable
irisarian.

Zone 4/5 - very cold and dry here. We have managed to miss virtually all of the
precipitation that the weather forecasters keep saying we may get. Received
only a dusting of snow last night, when others to the north and south of us have
gotten some much needed precip. To date, only have received 0.5 inches of rain
in late Oct, and 2 inches of snow just before Christmas - and that's since late
August. Sooooo, if any of you have too much precip and would like to share, we
would gladly take some off your hands.
