For those interested in species iris, there is an excellent site at:-
http://pisum.bionet.nsc.ru/kosterin/index.htm
which displays some of the wild flora of Siberia and the Altai Mountain
region. It is not easy to use as the photographs are divided into
mountain regions. There is also a species catalogue in Russian.
Despite the language, if on types in the latin name, the Russian text is
searched.
I was particularly impressed by the picture of I. ruthenica. I have
grown a seedling with this name which has yet to flower. It is a full
grown plant - small - and may not be ruthenica but until it flowers, who
knows! The clump in the picture is so much like graminea that one must
consider that they are related.
Has anyone got ruthenica to flower?
Ian, in Ottawa where the weather is exceptionally warm for this time of
the year; 6C in the day today.
