I guess that's not surprising: if a substance can alter the genes of a plant, there's
a chance it will do the same in animals (humans). It sounds like it needs to be
treated very respectfully and carefully.
Ironically enough, a hybridizing list I belong to which is slower than molasses in
winter (about 1 message every 40 days - I actually forget I belong to it until a new
message arrives), had a query from the list owner an hour ago: "Does anyone know
where I can get Colchicine on-line?". The question startled me, considering what
Caroline just shared. It sounds like there is widespread interest and knowledge of
this procedure, dangerous or not.
Someone told me of a website that discusses tetraploidy and chemicals to induce it,
including colchicine and a less toxic chemical, Surflan. I haven't looked through it
thoroughly, but it looks interesting so far:
