Yes, that is my suspicion on at least some. However, on at least some of
the affected clumps, there are signs of new root growth emerging from the
rhizome. This was especially true of the arilbred clumps which are
indicating
symptoms. I'll just have to see if my iris infirmary will revive some of
those.
I detached only part of the clumps on several and potted them. Time will
tell I guess. Certainly I think I'M suffering from a bit of scorch, so it's
not
unreasonable to think some of the irises are.
I am wondering also if the chemicals used in our water system may
aggravate this. Sometimes when taking a shower the chlorine smell is
so strong one can barely take a breath. And this year there is been almost
no rainfall, so the yard plants have either had the treated water or none.
Not
much of an option if that is the case, I'm afraid. Also, as the reservoir
level
gets lower and lower, I think more chemicals may be added to kill off the
increased concentration of not so good things which thrive under those
conditions.
