Speaking of judges training, have you read in the AIS Board minutes a
suggestion by the JT chairman to go back to having two types of
judges - Exhibition judges and Garden judges? Exhibition judges
just judge shows and Garden judges just judge irises in the garden.
This was phased out back in the late sixties or early seventies, and
I am wondering why some think it would work today.
It seems like every year, it is a struggle to get judges for our show
because they are few and far between. If the judges were divided as
has been suggested, it seems it be even more of a problem finding
show judges. I know some that won't judge shows and there are others
that don't like garden judging, but splitting the pool doesn't seem
to be the answer in my opinion. It has been tried and failed, and I
wonder why it has surfaced again, especially with the number of
judges apparently dwindling. Just look at the list of retired
judges. We have more retiring than entering. It doesn't appear in
the minutes that the Board took any action on the proposal.
I would like to hear what others think.
