Re: Re: CULT: rot proof cultivars

I find that both position in the garden and actual cv both have effect.
Where we grow Vic Falls in slightly raised rows we have no problem, but in
the unraised beds on a gentle slope in the display garden we almost lost it
to rot, last year. Interestingly Windsurfer (bred from VF) grows only a few
feet away and had no rot problems last year.

Never had a problem with Lady friend, although it grows right next to some
that had some rot last summer.
Jesse's song has achieved weed status here. Is there any way to slow it
down???

My Celebration Song is trying to recover from severe bloomout.

I have found huge differences in the adaptability of the irises I have
bought in over the last couple of years.
One large supplier has sent me huge fat rhizomes of very new increase, with
the roots only just developing. The other supplier has sent me much smaller
rhz, often with a large portion of mother rhz and several small inc. Whilst
the fat rhz look nicer, I find they establish less well, and are far more
likely to bloom out. I prefer to buy the rather wizened rhz as they are less
show and more go. I suspect that that fat ones have been forced with lots of
fertilizer etc.
